Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his gratitude to all those who played a crucial role during the fire season at an event organized by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection on Friday, in Thessaloniki.
Mitsotakis praised the efforts of firefighters during one of the hottest summers recorded in the past 40 years, with significantly more fires than last year. He noted that despite the increased number of fires and harsher conditions, the average area burned this year is nearly 30% lower than the average of the last 20 years, thanks to their hard work. He emphasized that there will be a thorough review at the end of the fire season aiming for continuous improvement.
Mitsotakis also highlighted the vital contributions of volunteers and praised their work. Alongside Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias, Mitsotakis greeted and spoke with several attendees at the event.
