A 34-year-old man jumped into the sea from a ferry at the port of Patmos on Wednesday, prompting a rescue operation.

According to the coast guard, the man had temporarily boarded the ferry boat Dodekanisos Express to load luggage belonging to his relatives.
However, upon realizing that the ship had begun to depart, he jumped into the sea in an attempt to return to shore.
The coast guard was immediately alerted and dispatched a patrol vessel, while a nearby tanker also rushed to the scene. Meanwhile, the crew of the Dodekanisos Express deployed a lifejacket.
The 34-year-old ultimately managed to exit the water safely and is in good health.
The ferry continued its scheduled route, while the incident is under investigation by the Patmos Port Authority.
