A woman who was identified as the mother of a young girl aged around 3 found dead at the Paleo Faliro beach a week ago and left unclaimed was charged on Saturday with the crime of homicide while in a calm state of mind, and with a misdemeanor of continuous and dangerous bodily harm against a family member that could not deflect the attacks.
After appearing before a prosecutor, the 32-year-old Algerian, who also has two young boys, was referred to an investigator for the formal issue of an arrest warrant, after which she will be detained until trial.
The woman lived in Greece without regular papers and was arrested on Friday. The file drawn up against her includes a testimony by a neighbor who said she was physically abusive to her children.
Her daughter, a toddler, was found dead at a beach. CCTV footage and witness testimonies led police to her home in Kato Patissia. She was arrested on Friday after leaving the house with her two boys. She claimed to Coast Guard investigators that the child had hurt itself from a fall and she was afraid to go to a hospital because she was in the country illegally.
