Migration Min Plevris visits Closed and Controlled Structure on Kos

Migration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris visited the Controlled Closed Structure (K.E.D.) in Pyli, Kos island, as part of his tour program of the frontline islands. Prior visits have already taken place in Samos and Lesvos. The purpose of these visits is to conduct an overall assessment of the current situation, inspect reception facilities, and strengthen cooperation with local authorities and organisations to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the new regulations introduced by the pending migration bill.

On Friday, the minister toured the facility in Kos and held extensive discussions with staff and management, identifying issues and needs related to its operation. Plevris received detailed briefings on the reception and hosting procedures for asylum seekers, as well as the living conditions within the K.E.D.

“The State stands by the islanders, providing compensatory benefits and specific policies that support local communities. At the same time, we are implementing a new migration doctrine: Greece is friendly and open to those who are genuinely entitled to asylum, but remains strict and hostile toward any illegal attempt to enter the country,” underlined Plevris.

He further noted that the ministry maintains constant communication with local authorities and communities of the Eastern Aegean islands, aiming to ensure the smooth operation of the facilities, particularly in areas under the greatest migration pressure. The minister was accompanied by the Secretary General for Asylum Seekers Reception, Dimitris Glymis.
