The hearing in the case of the 20-year-old accused of negligent arson in a forested area — for the fire that broke out in a rural area of Vrissa — has been set for September 22. The young man, who was carrying out work with a grinder, was brought before the prosecutor today to give his statement, and it was decided that the trial will begin at the single-member misdemeanour court.
The defence argued that the work was not being carried out in a forest but on rural land, and requested confirmation of this claim from the forestry service. Until that process is completed, the trial was adjourned to September 22. It should be noted that the Vrissa youth group, as well as the village president, were present at the court to support the 20-year-old, who also took part in extinguishing the fire. However, the 20-year-old was not a member of the youth group, nor was any member of the group involved in the work that caused the fire.
