PM Mitsotakis: Greece is no longer a state that seeks support but one that gives it

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his opening statement at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, said that “in my meetings with foreign leaders and investors, as well as in the speech I had the opportunity to deliver, I believe we conveyed the message of a strong Greece. Indeed, our country is no longer a state that seeks support, but one that gives it. And whereas in the past it represented an economic risk, today it is an example of progress-something that, I think, deserves to be highlighted. This stands in stark contrast to the real ‘frenzy’ of misinformation I encountered upon returning to Athens, since I even read that my photograph with President Trump was supposedly fake, despite the fact that it was officially published by the White House protocol. And all this at a time when very serious developments are unfolding, such as the prospect of peace in Gaza.

“I want to express my satisfaction with yesterday’s announcements made at the White House and to voice my hope that this plan-which appears to be well thought out-will be accepted by Hamas, so that we can move forward with the immediate release of all hostages, the immediate cessation of all hostilities, and the restoration of humanitarian aid, followed in due course by the creation of a new governance framework for the Gaza Strip. And of course, always keeping alive-and this is the official, long-standing position of Greek foreign policy-the prospect of a two-state solution in the region, which will be the only way to resolve once and for all this crisis that has lasted for many decades and obviously also affects our homeland, as we are part of the wider neighbourhood of the Eastern Mediterranean,” he stressed

“ Referring once again to our domestic affairs, I would say that this battle for truth has become a front that runs across all areas of current affairs: from the Tempi case or OPEKEPE, to the fake news we constantly see, even in the health sector and, unfortunately, also in national foreign and defence policy. That is why our responses must always be immediate and well-documented. After all, now more than ever, realism becomes a factor of stability and normality,” he added.
