PM Mitsotakis calls for stronger bilateral cooperation and investments, in meeting with Singaporean counterpart

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Thursday with his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong, during a visit to Singapore. He was also received by the President of the Republic, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, at the Istana government complex.

During the meeting, they examined the significant prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in a wide range of sectors, such as tourism, shipping, defence and Greek exports, including agri-food products, while the prospect of investments in Greece were discussed more broadly.

The two prime ministers also discussed cooperation and the exchange of know-how on issues of digital governance and the application of artificial intelligence in public administration.

Mitsotakis referred to the continuation and consolidation of reforms, while he particularly focused on Greece’s dual role as an energy hub for the wider region of Southeastern Europe and as a provider of energy security in Central and Eastern Europe. In this context, the prime minister referred to the recent agreement for the supply of Ukraine with American LNG during the visit of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to Athens.

The two leaders also discussed common positions of the two countries, such as the belief in the application of international law and the law of the sea, in the multilateral international system and in free trade.

The Greek prime minister expressed his support for the strengthening of relations between the EU and Singapore, which, as a member of the ASEAN group, plays an important role in the rapidly developing region of Southeast Asia.
