The Board of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water (RAAEY) is set to discuss the issue of water scarcity in Attica on Thursday. According to reports, a potential recommendation for a declaration of emergency is based on the latest hydrological data and scientific documentation.
The same sources noted that any decision in this regard would aim to accelerate procedures, studies, and the implementation of projects, rather than impose emergency measures on citizens. Areas declared to be in a water scarcity emergency would be eligible for public funding for the construction of water supply projects, even if they lack management capacity, and would have the option to fast-track the development of water supply infrastructure. Sources also emphasised that, in such a scenario, there would be no impact on citizens, as the declaration is not linked to price increases or restrictions on water use.
