Civil servants are excused from work on Friday due to weather

Civil servants whose transportation safety is affected by the severe weather do not have to go to work on Friday (Dec. 5), the Interior Ministry said on Thursday, following an updated weather report on dangerous weather issued by the National Meteorological Service.

The ministry cited a law that specifies civil servants may have a maximum of 2 days off every calendar year for reasons of adverse weather conditions, as long as an official relevant advisory has been issued on restricting circulation during that time.

In addition, the Labor & Social Security Ministry advised private sector companies to take care of employees working outdoors, and to apply remote working whenever necessary and possible.

Greece has been hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms, causing flooding and landslides, over the past few days.
