A number of Greek-owned oil tankers anchored off the coast of Novorossiysk in the Black Sea have reportedly been hit by drone attacks, according to reports on Tuesday, as they waited to load oil at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal.
Reports from the Greek maritime risk management firm Diaplous say the ships mentioned most often in same day reports were the Greek-owned oil tankers “Delta Harmony” flying a Liberian flag and the Malta-flagged tanker “Matilda”.
Later updates added the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker “Freud” and the Liberia-flagged tanker “Delta Supreme”, also of Greek ownership, that were likewise hit in the same maritime zone, while waiting to load oil at the CPC.
As the information publicly available remained limited, with nothing known about either the type of drone involved (surface or aerial), the precise point of impact on each tanker, the extent of the damage or pollution caused or the movements of the ships after each incident.
Consequently, the incident is currently being treated as a confirmed series of drone attacks on oil tankers with activity around the CPC terminal, while technical estimates of the damages and operational repercussions are under investigation until official or more detailed corroborated announcements are made.
