Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Dimas had a working lunch with US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle on Tuesday.

The two officials discussed issues of mutual interest, while Dimas pointed out to the ambassador Greece’s strategic role in the Baltic Sea – Black Sea – Aegean Sea (BBA) European Transport Corridor (ETC), along with the rise of Alexandroupolis’ role as a hub of multimodal transport. The Greek minister also noted that Greece is investing in a modern freight transport system, encouraging connectivity with global transport corridors such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Following the meeting, Dimas stated, “Strengthening connectivity allows us to build even stronger ties with the United States, as Greece is developing cross-border corridors in order to ensure Europe’s resilience. Toward this direction, the Infrastructure and Transport Ministry is upgrading the domestic road and railroad network, boosting in tandem the logistics infrastructure. Greece is playing the role of a trade gateway to the East Mediterraneand and a hub of high geopolitical value in the Balkan peninsula. The rising number of American investments in the supply chain sector is also a sign of confidence in our effort. We will continue to develop a gradually friendlier investment environment, in order to expand these synergies.”
On her side, Ambassador Guilfoyle noted, “Economies run on transportation. I had a great discussion with Greek Minister of Infrastructure & Transport Christos Dimas about developments in this key sector! We’re committed to identifying new investments that benefit both our countries, creating high-quality jobs and greater opportunities for our people.”
