Three suspects were arrested in Thessaloniki after allegedly collecting €50,000 in marked bills from a car rental company manager, authorities said.
The case stems from a complaint by a 74-year-old businessman who reported being threatened on video by a masked man demanding €100,000.
Defense attorneys offered an alternative account, arguing their clients “were on the victim’s side,” and that one of them “tried to help the victim, who asked for assistance against the extortionists.”
Following the initial complaint, a wave of violence erupted across the city – including arson, shootings at a shop on Vasilissis Olgas Street, and gunfire at a cafe linked to one of the defendants.
