Police raid unlicensed Athens retirement home

Police and health officials in central Athens have raided an unlicensed retirement home where four elderly women were found allegedly living in unhygienic conditions without proper medical care, officials said Thursday.

The operation followed a tip-off and focused on a flat in the Ambelokipi district, where the women were found to be living, each in a room of her own. Reports said police brought a locksmith to enter the premises.

The four women were reportedly in poor health, and three of them were taken to hospital.

Municipal officials also took charge of four dogs and a cat found living on the premises.
