The Education Ministry has launched a nationwide psychological support service, including a free hotline for students and families ahead of the national university entrance examinations, officials said Monday.
The dedicated number, 1550, is staffed by psychologists from state diagnostic and support centers (KEDASY) across the country, in cooperation with the Health Ministry. Calls are free for all users, and the service will run through June 30.
Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki said the initiative is intended to reduce stress during what she described as a demanding process.
“The Panhellenic examinations are, admittedly, a demanding process for candidates and their families. We are by their side. No child is left alone,” she said, urging students to speak openly and continue pursuing their goals.
“Their mental health is a consistent priority for the state, and strengthening the relationship between schools, students and families is a shared responsibility,” she added.
The initiative comes amid renewed concern over exam-related stress. Earlier this month, two 17-year-old girls died after jumping from a six-story building in Athens, an incident reportedly linked to depression and fears of disappointing their parents over academic performance.
