The rate of inflation eased slightly in May, rising by 5.2%, compared with 5.4% in the previous month, and 2.5% in May 2025, the Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Wednesday.
However, in the year-on-year comparison, notable price increases were recorded in food products, energy, and services. Specifically, prices rose in these food and drink categories: beef (17.6%), pork (1.7%), lamb and goat meat (16.2%), poultry (6%), processed meats/cold cuts (4.9%), meat-based preparations (4.5%), salted/preserved fish (12.6%), dairy products and eggs (2.7%), margarine and other vegetable fats (10.6%), fruit (3.5%), vegetables (4.1%), sugar, chocolate, sweets, and ice cream (2%), and coffee (5.2%).
There was also a 7.7% annual rise in residential rents, 21% in natural gas, 24.4% in diesel fuel, 21.5% in gasoline, 34.8% in other fuels, 9.2% in air passenger transport, and 16.2% in jewelry and watches.
