Expert report on damage to Kypseli buildings from metro works delivered to prosecutor

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas on Wednesday delivered a report by experts on the damage sustained by buildings in Athens’ Kypseli district by the works to open up Athens Metro Line 4 to the head of the First-Instance Court Public Prosecutors, Aristides Koreas.

The expert report compiled by independent consultants as part of the municipality’s support for residents in the affected building reports serious to very serious damage to supporting and non-supporting elements of the buildings and signs of subsidence in the 14 buildings inspected, out of a total of more than 20 believed affected.

Emerging from the prosecutor’s office, Doukas made the following statement: “I think we had a duty to immediately deliver this report because the facts do not simply sustain but actually intensify the residents’ insecurity and uncertainty. There is subsidence that, according to the report, is four times greater than normal. There are buildings that have been ‘red-coded’, which means there is a very high risk and I should point out that the report concerns only some of the buildings, not all, 14 in total. For two of them, in fact, there is no data while the total number is more than 20, I estimate 24.”

He noted that a preliminary investigation has already begun and that the report will be very significant in the ongoing investigation.
