Tirana court rejects Beleri’s request to be sworn-in as Himare mayor

A request by remanded ethnic Greek mayor-elect of Himare, Fredi Beleri, to be sworn-in was on Monday rejected by Albania’s Special Appeals Court for Corruption & Organized Crime.

Albanian law does not provide for such a case, it was reported.

Beleri has been held without charges on suspicion of ballot fraud since May, while several appeals to be released have been rejected by Albanian courts.

His trial will continue on December 19.
